22nd January 2012
It may be the start for Colchester Villa Under 7s, with this
being on the 4th match but it was very much the case of the final countdown as
Villa ran out 10-1 winners thanks to FOURfrom Aiden, THREE from
Jamie, TWO from Nafey and ONE from Emmanuel.
Against their much more experienced opponents Villa managed to combine good
movement, slick passing, cool finishing and an abundance of powerful running to
run out winners.
The first half started pretty even with the play being bogged down in the
middle as the boys forgot to keep their shape and make the pitch as big as
possible. Once Joshua started to occupy the Wivenhoe defenders higher up the
pitch and Aiden and Nafey stayed wide some space began to open up. Jamie took
full advantage as he twice got on the scoresheet, one a jinxing run and finish,
with the other a bullet of a shot that would’ve left many a keeper helpless.
Aiden got in on the act after he came in from the right and found himself
played in by Jamie just to the left of the penalty area and emphatically
slotted home. Jamie had another effort on goal from well outside the area which cannoned off the crossbar and to safety.
With Reece and Louis dealing comfortably with everything that Wivenhoe created
going forward Sam was a virtual spectator for much of the first half. Sometimes
the hardest thing for a goalkeeper is to have nothing to do for the majority of
the game and then be called upon, Sam dismissed this theory as he made a smart
double save just before the half time whistle to keep the clean sheet intact.
Half Time: 3-0
Into the 2nd half and Reece who had controlled the defence effortlessly was
pushed forward in the hope of having the same effect in the attacking third.
Ethan, Joshua and Elliot took over in defence.
It didn’t take long for another sub, Emmanuel to get on the score sheet,
finding the bottom corner after Ethan had broke up a Wivenhoe surge forward.
Reece and Jamie then turned creators for Nafey and Aiden as Villa really turned
the screw on their opponents in a 5 minute spell.
As Wivenhoe got back into the game, Elliot had to be alert to get a foot in as
Villa were almost caught high up the pitch. Had it not been for a superb tackle
from the very impressive Joshua, Wivenhoe could have again been in. Not happy
with merely winning the ball Joshua cut inside the Wivenhoe midfield and played
a defence splitting pass for Jamie to latch onto and he made no mistake. A
lovely finished matched only by a superb passage of play from Joshua.
A momentary lapse in concentration left Sam isolated against a Wivenhoe attack
and despite cleverly narrowing the angle the Wivenhoe striker managed to find a
way of scoring. Despite this setback, going forward Villa oozed confidence,
epitomised by Aiden trying a cheeky back heel when he almost got on the end of
a Jamie ball.
With Reece, Aiden, Jamie, Nafey and Emmanuel on the pitch Villa were never going
to be short of goals and Nafey and Aiden profited from good work from Reece to
get their second and fourth of the match respectively.
As the full time whistle blew Villa celebrated their fourth straight win and
immediately began to look forward to the next challenge.
